Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers named National League Player of the Month Presented by Chevrolet for March/April; Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles named American League Player of the Month Presented by Chevrolet for March/April

Infielder Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been named the National League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for March/April, and shortstop Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles has been voted the American League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for March/April. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Betts claimed his second career NL Player of the Month Award and third monthly honor, previously winning the Dodgers’ last recognition in August of last year, and winning AL monthly honors in July 2016 as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Henderson earned his first career AL Player of the Month Award and became the first Orioles player to be named since Manny Machado in August 2017.

• The 31-year-old hit .377 (46-for-125) with six homers, 23 RBI, 10 doubles, two triples, 26 walks, 29 runs scored, eight stolen bases, a .624 slugging percentage and a .477 onbase percentage across 32 games to begin 2024.
• The Tennessee native led the Majors in batting average, OBP, OPS (1.101), hits (46), walks and runs scored; and ranked second in slugging, extra-base hits (18) and total bases (78).
• The seven-time All-Star had 11 multi-hit games, including five two-hit games, three three-hit games (3/30 vs. STL; 4/13 vs. SD; and 4/27 @ TOR), two four-hit games (3/21 vs. SD and 4/24 @ WSH) and a five-hit game on April 16th against Washington.
• The two-time World Series Champion tallied his 1,500th career hit on a solo home run in the third inning on April 2nd against the Giants. He is one of 20 active players with at least 1,500 career hits and the only current Dodger of the group.
• The 2018 AL Most Valuable Player and 2023 NL MVP runner-up racked up a season-high six RBI against the Padres in Seoul, South Korea on March 21st. It marked the fourth game in his career in which he drove home at least six runs and first with the Dodgers, joining September 12, 2017 (6 RBI); July 2, 2017 (8 RBI); and August 14, 2016 (8 RBI). Overall, he drove home seven runs during the 2024 Seoul Series.
• The six-time Silver Slugger homered in four straight games from March 21st through March 30th, marking the longest such streak in his career. He hit his 49th career leadoff home run on March 29th, marking his 29th leadoff homer with the Dodgers, surpassing
Davey Lopes for the most in franchise history. Among active players, Betts’ 49 leadoff homers trail only George Springer, who has 57 career leadoff home runs, and his 49 career leadoff home runs are fifth-most all-time.
• The 2018 Rod Carew AL Batting Champion reached in each of his final 11 games in April and extended the streak to 12 games with three hits on May 1st at Arizona. Over the current 12-game stretch, he is boasting a .500 on-base percentage with 18 hits and 10 walks. Betts also reached in 14 straight games from April 1st-16th and has reached safely in 31 of his 33 games this season, the most of any player in the Majors

• The 22-year-old hit .291 (34-for-117) with 10 home runs, 24 RBI, three doubles, three triples, eight walks, 25 runs scored, six stolen bases and a .624 slugging percentage across 29 games to begin his campaign.
• The Alabama native tied for the Major League lead in home runs; led AL hitters in slugging and total bases (73); tied for second among AL hitters in triples, extra-base hits (16) and runs scored; ranked fourth in OPS (.980) and tied for fourth in RBI.
• The reigning unanimous AL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year recorded four straight multi-hit games from April 14th-17th, going a combined 9-for-16 (.563) with a run scored and at least one RBI in all four games. From April 15th-17th, he homered in all three games in the O’s series against the Twins. Overall, he recorded 11 multi-hit games in March/April, including eight two-hit games and three three-hit games.
• On Monday against the Yankees, Henderson became the youngest player in Major League history to hit 10 home runs before May 1st, launching his fifth career leadoff home run. His 10 homers before May 1st are tied for the second-most in Orioles history (since 1954) with Hall of Famer Frank Robinson (10 HR in 1969) and trailing only Brady Anderson (11 HR in 1996).
• The 2023 Silver Slugger scored a run in seven straight games from April 20th-27th, marking the second-longest such streak in Baseball this season behind only Philadelphia’s Trea Turner, who scored in eight straight games from April 13th-21st. Overall, Henderson scored a run in 18 of his 29 games throughout March and April, tied for the second-most in Baseball and trailing only Betts, who scored a run in 19 games.
• The second round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft tallied six stolen bases in April and is one of 15 players across Baseball this year with at least five steals to not be caught. After being one of a record-tying 19 players with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in 2023, Henderson has picked up where he left off, leading a group of eight players who have at least five homers and five stolen bases this year.

Others receiving votes for AL Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet included catcher/first baseman Salvador Perez (.355, 7 HR, 26 RBI, 5 2B, 10 BB, 14 R, .415 OBP) of the Kansas City Royals; outfielder Juan Soto (.325, 8 HR, 25 RBI, 6 2B, 25 BB, 22 R, 2 SB, .428 OBP) of the New York Yankees; outfielder Steven Kwan (.350, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 5 2B, 1 3B, 8 BB, 27 R, 3 SB) of the Cleveland Guardians; and outfielder Tyler O’Neill (.320, 9 HR, 12 RBI, 1 2B, 13 BB, 20 R, .693 SLG, .433 OBP) of the Boston Red Sox.
